Trinidad and Tobago Receives International Recognition for Mass and Related Quantities

Submitted by the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards

Trinidad and Tobago has achieved international recognition of its first Calibration and Measurement Capability (CMC) in the area of Mass and Related Quantities.  The CMC was published on the International Bureau of Weights and Measures’ (BIPM) Key Comparison Database (KCDB) on 12th January 2021, although the status was achieved on December 31, 2020.

In 2005, TTBS along with ten (10) other National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) of CARICOM through CROSQ signed on to the International Committee for Weights and Measures – Mutual Recognition Arrangement (CIPM-MRA) as an Associate Economy.  This arrangement placed Trinidad and Tobago in an internationally accepted framework to demonstrate its international equivalence of its measurement standards and calibration and measurement capabilities.

The achievement of international recognition was made possible through the dedication of the Metrology Division of the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS).
